Doheny Eye Institute, an affiliate of UCLA, invited application by those with immunology working experience for a Research position to study pathogenesis and immunoregulation of autoimmune diseases. Persons with postdoctoral experience in autoimmune pathogenesis, cellular immunology, and T cell biology are particularly urged to apply. Outstanding candidate will be considered for a senior position and encouraged to become an independent investigator.

JOB SUMMARY (Brief statement summarizing main functions and purpose of the job):

Collaborate with principal investigator and other researchers to plan, design and conduct highly technical and complex research projects. Analyze research data and provide interpretations. Contributes to the development of research documentation for publications. Supervise doctoral students, medical students and postdoctoral fellows and employees engaged in laboratory technical services on a regular project basis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List major functions in order of responsibility):

Plan and conduct highly technical and complex research projects, procedures and analyzes under the supervision of principal investigator. Assist principal investigator and postdoctoral associate of the laboratory in the supervision of doctoral students and medical students in procedures, techniques and use of equipment as needed.

Arrange and evaluate research data. Maintain accurate records. Prepare technical reports and papers.

Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory/scientific equipment.

Collaborate with principal investigator and other research personnel to plan and design experiment. Advise on methods for improving experiment results. Review progress and discuss with principal investigators.

Supervise laboratory staff and student workers. Participate in recruiting and hiring staff. Train and provide technical guidance as needed. Schedule, assign and prioritize work. Monitor and evaluate employee performance and counsel or discipline as needed.

Advise on acquisition or enhancement of specialized equipment and laboratory setup or design.

Contribute to the development and implementation of laboratory procedures and policies

Identify, research, compile and evaluate data sources and background information in area of specializations to enhance planning and design of experiments.

Stays current in field of specialization through course work, reading journals and scientific papers, maintaining professional network and attending seminars and conferences as appropriate.

Maintain compliance of laboratory with all applicable safety guidelines.

Maintain confidentiality of all records and information that pertains to patients, physicians, employees, the organization and in related interests.

加州大學洛杉磯分校前身為一所位于洛杉磯市區的師范學校，成立于1881年3月，系應當時洛杉磯市民的強烈要求而建立，專為加州南部地區培養合格教師。1914年遷至好萊塢附近。1917年該師范學院的校長建議將這其改造成加州大學的第二座校園，這個想法得以在1919年3月23日實現——加利福尼亞州立法機關通過了將這所師范學校改為“加利福尼亞大學南部分校”的法令，并添加了培養一般本科課程的文理學院。1927年改名為“加州大學洛杉磯分校(University of California, Los Angeles)”，尤以縮寫UCLA著稱。1933年獲得碩士學位授予權，1936年獲得博士學位授予權。
